Dr. Christine Anerella
Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Christine Anerella was born and raised in New York City. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Social and Cultural Analysis from New York University and began her graduate studies in psychology as both a researcher and student at Columbia University. She received her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University, in Brooklyn, New York. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the use of humor to mitigate conflict in close relationships.

Dr. Anerella has experience working in a number of psychiatric clinical and research facilities including the Neuropsychoimaging Group at Brookhaven National Laboratory (now located at Mount Sinai), the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and in Dr. Vivian Mougios’ private neuropsychology practice. She was a therapist in the counseling center at a large metropolitan University, and at the William Alanson White Institute. For her Doctoral Internship, she practiced at Green Chimneys Children’s Services, a therapeutic farm for children and adolescents. There she worked as an individual and family therapist and evaluator in the Therapeutic Day School, the Residential Treatment Center, and the outpatient Community Based Services facilities. As a doctoral intern, she conducted updated evaluations for Individual Education Plan renewals and participated in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings as both a therapist and a psychoeducational evaluator.

As both a therapist and an evaluator, Dr. Anerella has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with a wide variety of diagnoses including developmental disabilities, psychiatric diagnoses, and personality disorders. She has a wide range of experience having worked with diverse, multiethnic, multicultural populations. She has treated children and their families who have experienced loss, tragedy, past or recent trauma and/or new diagnoses.

Her approach to therapy is integrative and flexible, and draws from primarily dynamic interventions that focus on interpersonal process. She also incorporates elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and other modalities when appropriate.

As an evaluator specifically, she has experience administering, scoring, and interpreting cognitive, academic, neuropsychological, personality, and projective measures. She is most excited to assess children, and to help parents, families, schools and supportive staff (tutors, therapists, etc.) to assist children in reaching their highest academic, social and other potential.
