Psychoeducational &
Neuropsychological Testing
Psychoeducational evaluations are comprehensive assessments of cognitive abilities, learning, behavior, and social-emotional functioning. Dr. Anerella's evaluations focus not just on how a child’s cognitive and other capacities have developed, but on how these factors are currently impacting functioning. Assessments can provide diagnostic impressions and can help students, parents, teachers, and other members of their team better understand how a child learns, relates to others, and will be best supported for optimal academic and social success.
Core testing usually examines the following areas
Cognitive Abilities
a child’s foundational verbal and nonverbal cognitive capacities
Academic Skills
how well a child has learned and retained academic information and their ability to retrieve the information from memory and communicate it effectively
Social and Emotional development
a child’s current internal emotional state, how they express or conceal their emotions, how they manage or struggle to manage emotions, and how these factors impact their capacity to form and maintain important relationships with parents, siblings, peers, teachers, and others.
If required or requested, memory, attention and executive functioning can also be assessed.
Get Started
Dr. Anerella’s attention to detail and genuine interest in each child is essential in a thorough, comprehensive assessment. By using her clinical training to guide astute qualitative observations throughout testing, she is able to incorporate important information about a child’s capacity that brings otherwise quantitative, sterile data to life.
By discussing concerns prior to testing with parents and teachers, and following up with a child’s family and team to provide feedback and recommendations, Dr. Anerella hopes to maximize the benefit of each evaluation and report she completes.
-
Each evaluation is tailored to the specific concerns and needs of of your child. The testing process includes several appointments, as well as contact between Dr. Anerella and any relevant team members.
-
During the first appointment, a developmental history and parent interview are completed.
Standardized surveys that collect data from your child’s teacher may also be obtained during/prior to this appointment.
Then, either one, two or more appointments with the child will be scheduled to conduct the actual testing. Each testing session takes approximately three hours depending on the child's pace and stamina.
-
The data from testing is then analyzed and reviewed, and Dr. Anerella completes a comprehensive report outlining the strengths and challenges of the child. Finally, parents will meet with Dr. Anerella for a feedback session during which the results of testing and specific recommendations for optimal success are made. The report can then be shared with whomever the parents feel would be most beneficial, such as teachers, tutors, occupational or speech language therapists, etc.
-
Each testing is unique. Depending on what is required to evaluate each child, evaluation length, time for report writing, and time contacting parents and team members varies. Please contact Dr. Anerella’s office for an estimate for your child/student. Parents, teachers and therapists are welcome to inquire.
